It was a truly magical night

There are times in life that when they happen you know you're going to look back on them and say, "Yeah, that was really cool!"

For conservatives and Republicans in Massachusetts, and in particular this one, last night was one of those nights.

Consumer spending is 70-percent of the economy.

And the consumer evidently thinks the economy sucks.

Ticker-Guy sums it up with one appropriate word: Awful.

So how's that "Green Shoots" based recovery working out for 'ya?

Don't worry, I've already reported myself to ratfink@whorehouse.gov

You know, I consider myself to be just about the farthest thing from a radical that exists.  My former, spectacularly undistinguished career wearing Our Nation's Uniform notwithstanding, I'm really a rather inherently non-violent person; an Opus Dei Catholic and all that, who has been known to almost wreck his car to avoid hitting a chipmunk in the road, and such.

And I'm pretty darn sure everyone who knows me personally would agree.

Yet after reading stuff like this, in the context of this and this, I find myself with visions of sharpening pitchforks, cleaning shotguns and mixing Molotov cocktails constantly dancing through my head lately.  And I'm finding that my long-stored Army field manuals are becoming a pretty good read - for the first time, in many cases.

And if that's the case, I can only wonder what's going through the minds of my fellow morons who may be a bit less - ahem - subtle in their preferred approach to solving political problems.

Methinks none of this will end well.  At all.

Best... Rant... EVAH!

Moron Pundit is a more-or-less regular poster at doubleplusundead, but was also blogging solo for some time.

This, the last post at MP, is a gem.

A great read.  A great vent.

Bravo.

This is so totally awesome I'm swiping it wholesale

I'd like to clarify something that some people seemed to be confused about.

Health care is not a right. (Neither is education, or food, or housing, or a job.)

How can I be so sure?

Anything that requires the labor of someone else cannot be a universal human right.

It's just so blessedly simple, really.  Please do read the whole thing.

H/T.

Bobby Jindal is a really smart guy.

And he shows-off some of that brilliance here.  If I could reprint the whole thing here legally I would.

I quibble with nits in Gov. Jindal's approach, but his is so far superior to that currently, and blessedly, stalled in Congress it would be painfully unfair to compare them.

Memo to the GOP - take this and run with it, as fast as you can, to anyone who will listen.

I'd very much like to comment on the Sarah Palin resignation saga.

The thing is though, Mark Steyn pretty much said everything I wanted to say.

And then Alex pretty much hit this one long out of the park along the same lines.

So all I'm left to say is that Sarah Palin's departure from the national political stage is a huge loss for the GOP and the nation.  For the left?  Yeah, they got another scalp - and I hope they choke on it.  I hope it burns through their intestines and blows-through their bunghole on the way out.

And I sincerely hope David Letterman has the shiite beat out of him sooner rather than later.  I hope he's kicked sharply in his shriveled-up nuts and beaten to within an inch of his sick, vapid, waste of a life.  And then beaten some more - just for kicks.

But other than that, I really don't have any strong feelings on the matter.

I have no idea who is Paul Ibrahim

But I like the cut of his jib!

The reality is that the Republican Party has, for at least a decade, been everything contrary to what the “purists” wanted it to be. In fact, it has taken every step the big-tenters claim are necessary to “save” the party from permanent minority status.

This entire piece is a huge freaking A-MEN!  Please, do read it all.

Just... wow!

Stunning, really.

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

And it gets better from there.  Please, do read the whole painfull thing.

The marvel that is modern, free-market (nominally, at least) healthcare.

Here goes...

I show-up at my PCP with suspicion of appendicitis at 07:50 yesterday morning.

By 12:15, I'm going in for a CT-scan at a nearby hospital.

Not 45-minutes later, the scan is done, has been read, the diagnosis confirmed, and I'm off to the ER.

Now, because it's nutty at the hospital yesterday it actually takes a little over 3-hours to get into the ER, and another 2 before I'm seen.  Everyone apologizes for the long wait.

I'm in surgery 75-minutes after seeing the first ER doctor, and out of surgery about 90-minutes later.

And here, some 15-hours after surgery to remove an inflamed appendix, I'm in my own home, ready to fly Air Percocet, and in pretty darn good shape otherwise.

A marvel, truly.

Glad this happened before Obamacare hits.

Time flies

Remember last week?  When we were told the shockingly low unemployment numbers meant that we were over the recession hump and happy days were here again?

Well, forget it.

New jobless claims rose more than expected last week due partly to an increase in layoffs by the automobile industry, while the number of people continuing to receive unemployment benefits set a record for the 15th straight week.

Sheesh, there's that damn reality-thing again.

I have a man-crush on Mark Steyn

Below the fold is an excerpt from a recent lecture, given by Mark Steyn at Hillsdale College in New Hampshire - the full text is here.

It is, truth be told, a rather stunning read.  Even by the already high standards for such things that people like me have for Steyn's work.  It's also quite chilling given the context he lays out for our current political climate and our all-too-certain near- and long-term futures.

It will take you a couple of minutes - but seriously, it's well worth the time.

As he's the reason this landed in my inbox, many thanks are owed to Mike Franco - who, in retrospect, I really wish had been elected Chairman of the Massachusetts GOP.  Had that happened, chances are I might be sticking with the Republican Party a little bit longer.  Alas, and alack...

When I quit the Republican Party for good...

... and it will probably happen sooner rather than later...

... Meghan McCain will be one big, fat, stupid reason.

Meghan?  Sweetie?  Your 15-minutes ended when Daddy McMaverick's worst-in-a-century presidential campaign ended.  There is therefore no need to continue to share your middle-school-level intellect and political acumen with the world.

Seriously.

Well, I was going to see it anyway.

And probably on opening weekend.

But methinks now that the cast/crew of the JJ Abrams vision of Star Trek are The Awesome!

Note to Hollywood, not only is this the right thing to do, it's awesome advertising. Let's face it, this film didn't need any free publicity, any extra buzz to score a huge opening weekend. Abrams and crew clearly did it because it was the right thing. Good for them.

Heck, I may even go twice.
