You know, Rummy killed weapons programs too.

What could possibly go wrong?

Gates readies big cuts in weapons

Now, as the only Bush Cabinet member to remain under President Obama, (SecDef Robert) Gates is preparing the most far-reaching changes in the Pentagon's weapons portfolio since the end of the Cold War, according to aides.

Sure, because killing programs that employ actual Americans and provides our soldiers, sailors and airmen with the best equipment possible in a time of global instibility and economic collapse is a brilliant fucking idea.

I'm sure someone believes this horseshit.

No really, the Obama Administration isn't really, seriously, ginormously increasing the size and scope of Government.  After all, Tim "Tax Cheat" Geithner said so.

Now, again, if you take out interest costs, and you take out the modest increase forced by aging of the baby boom, this is a change in priorities for the country, but it's not a significant growth in the overall size of the government to GDP.

So I suppose this means that so long as you ignore all the spending then there's not really all that much spending going on.

Seriously, this was the only guy for the job?  My 13-year old daughter pulls this sort of BS on me - I expect better from the guy I was told was the super-smartest mega-genius in the history of History.

Hey, this sounds like a swell idea.

I know, let's balance the budget on the backs of wounded vets.

The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. ...

"It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan," said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion.

Gee, a liberal Democrat sticking it to the military.  Color me shocked.

Yep, this is helpful.

For today's moron... Sen. Chuck Grassley!  Come on down!!!

Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley suggested that AIG executives should take a Japanese approach toward accepting responsibility for the collapse of the insurance giant by resigning or killing themselves.

Uh, here's a hint, Chuckles - you should have stopped at "resigning".  Much as I'm really not feeling sympathetic to any of the multitude of assorted scum responsible for this nightmare, suggesting mass seppuku is probably not where we need to be going right now.

I would, however, stretch my credulity a bit make an exception should certain liberals and members of Congress wish to to, well, lead by example on this score.

With all the so-called "creative geniuses" in the Democrat Party...

... one would be forgiven for thinking they could come-up with a campaign a whole lot less lame than this...
Rush

Wow - did it take them a whole, what? hour to think that up?

It does raise a somewhat important point through - is this, or is this not, the thinnest-skinned Administration in the history of history?

So much for St. Barack "Mr. Post-Partisan" Obama, eh?

The way stupid people think about economics

Today's idiot?  Union tool Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake...

...increased wages for working people would mean "increased spending power of lower income consumers," which would mean that even if Wal-Mart was successfully unionized -- a big if -- they could make up the cost of higher wages with an increase in sales.

So, Wal-Mart could maintain their bottom line in an environment of (artifically) inflated labor costs by... raising their prices.  Brilliant.

Yes, there are actually people walking around, evidently completely free of the supervision of others, who believe this stuff.

Phew! We really dodged a bullet with that Palin chick.

Joe Biden - the gift that keeps on giving.

5 percent of the Taliban is incorrigible, not susceptible to anything other than being defeated.  Another 25 percent or so are not quite sure, in my view, the intensity of their commitment to the insurgency.  And roughly 70 percent are involved because of the money, because of them being -- getting paid.

"In my view"?  You mean, not in the view of all this "Tough. Smart." intel your Administration promised us?

So, you're just kinda sorta making it up as you go.  Right?

Botox Air

As Glenn said: The country’s in the very best of hands.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has gone from frequent flier to jet-aircraft connoisseur, with aides berating military officials to get the best planes, e-mails revealed yesterday.

Pelosi, who clashed with the military to get nonstop service when she flies home to California with police protection on government planes, revealed a particular fondness for Gulfstream’s sleek G-5 - a plane glamorized in Hollywood films and rap videos.

The Boston Globe: In the Zero tank.

Yeah, I bet this story would have been given front-page play if John McCain were sitting in the White House presently...

New figures being released today show the recession helped drive down global warming emissions from Northeast power plants last year to their lowest levels in at least nine years.

Sing it with me... "Al-ways look on the briiiight si-ide of life" (whistle...)

But Pravda on the Bay was quick to point-out that not everyone is happy...

Uh, shouldn't we at least start spending the first $1,000,000,000,000 before asking for more?

I must admit that I'm with Allahpundit.  I mean, if Spendulus - you remember, that $800B "emergency" pile of Grade-A Pork we had to have NOW! NOW! NOW!! OR WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!, or something - was supposed to "save or create 3.5-million jobs", or something, should we not, you know, wait to see if it actually works as advertised before loading-up on another big pile of our kids' future earnings?

Or is the Democrat mantra-of-the-day...

Nothing says confidence like an endless string of multibillion-dollar emergency bailouts.

But can we get him to stay there?

Massachusetts is in, more-or-less, free-fall.  Unemployment is spiking, the budget is projected to have a massive deficit, they're talking about sticking us with hundreds in new gas taxes (and that's just for starters), and serious, heated debates are raging as we speak to attempt to do something with these crucial issues...

... and our Governor, Mini-Barack, the Cadillac of Governors, Coupe Deval Patrick (D-MA) - is in the Caribbean.

Together We CanTM! Leave the state in a lurch, evidently.

Poor baby.

Aww - poor Zero was too fucking tired to show proper respect to the elected leader of our oldest and most reliable ally.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

Not only are we obviously a Nation of Crybaby Pussies but we evidently now have a President who personifies it.  Awesome.

Worst. Administration. Ever.

The level of Craptacular in Porkulus simply knows no bounds.

Who didn't see this coming?

Tens of thousands of jobs created by the economic stimulus law could end up filled by illegal immigrants, particularly in big states such as California where undocumented workers are heavily represented in construction, experts on both sides of the issue say.

So, who's up for your kids' future earnings being used to provide "stimulus" money - after the recession is projected to be, ahem, over - for people who have no legal business being in the US?  Anyone?

More from, and a H/T to, DrewM.

How's about this for some dissent Schaeffer - go fuck yourself.

So how - precisely - would we know the difference?

Arlen Specter - the once and perhaps future Democrat.

With Pat Toomey suddenly looking for a rematch in a Republican primary and the RNC threatening to insert itself into the race, Specter may find the pastures greener on the other side of the partisan fence...

Well, yeah.  I suspect Toomey will clean Arlen's clock in the closed Republican PA primary 15-months hence.  It's not as if Specter has been doing the "mending fences" bit with the GOP - tossing national Republican under the Spendulus bus was, well, expected.

As for this congress?
Switching parties now will almost certainly eliminate any chance of holding a filibuster for Mitch McConnell, but it may be difficult to tell the difference at this point.

Indeed - really all this would change is the expectation that McConnell should actually be able to keep this herd of cats in line - an expectation that, truth be told, all evidence indicates is rather grossly exaggerated.

Adios, Arlen.

A glimpse into the future of HopenChange

Well, to the extent that the liquidation of trillions in wealth is likened by our President as "just the gyrations of the market" and sort of like "political tracking polls" - and further to the extent that his Mini-Me is roughly 2-years ahead of Zero as Governor of the bluest state in the union - let's see how Governor Coupe Deval "Together We Can" Patrick is doing in those "political tracking polls" these days...

Uh, not so good.

I cannot believe this isn't getting more play.

This is a honking big Rubicon that Obamanomics is demanding we cross...

New and expanded refundable tax credits would raise the fraction of taxpayers paying no income taxes to almost 50% from 38%. This is potentially the most pernicious feature of the president's budget, because it would cement a permanent voting majority with no stake in controlling the cost of general government.

Catch that?

Congratulations, Obamerica - go ahead and try to vote yourselves rich.

I'll be going Galt.

As they say, read the whole thing.

"Never waste a good crisis"

Time to play everyone's favorite game - try to think of what would be the media reaction if a Republican said...

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told an audience Friday "never waste a good crisis," and highlighted the opportunity of rebuilding economies in a greener, less energy-intensive way.

If fact, isn't this precisely the sort of language the paranoid left-moronosphere explicitly believed was being used on a daily basis by Chimpy and Darth Cheney?  And, what, no outrage over this from The Shrew?

Color me spectacularly unsurprised.

Good to see Congress has its priorities straight.

Let's see - economy collapsing?  Check.
Unemployment going through the roof?  Check.
Pork-crammed spending bills stalling?  Check.

Sounds like a perfect time for a Capitol Hill visit from the less buff half of Brangelina.

You know, I've never in my life been more convinced that the country would be in just as capable hands if we picked our representatives at random out of the fucking phone book.
